𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: This ‘80s teen comedy-drama launched Tom Cruise to stardom the moment he slid across the floor dancing with his pants off to Bob Seger. Cruise plays a responsible rich kid whose desire to cut loose while his parents are out of town leads him to contact a beautiful call girl, who opens up his wild side. RISKY BUSINESS mixes tender romance with sharp witted humor, all set to the moody synth stylings of Tangerine Dream’s memorable score. Rated R.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲: RISKY BUSINESS is primarily remembered for Tom Cruise's iconic dance to Bob Seger’s "Old Time Rock and Roll." However, it is the evocative score created by the German electronic duo Tangerine Dream that truly enhances this ‘80s teen comedy. Throughout the decade, the duo produced music for over 20 films, with their notable psychedelic synth-pop soundtracks for THIEF and SORCERER being their early standouts, though their most memorable film composition work comes from this 1983 film. The film's most unforgettable piece is "Love on a Real Train." At a time when teen comedies were often seen as lighthearted escapades, this poignant track, combined with stunning visuals, direction, and performances, offers an atmospheric and hypnotically poetic experience that elevates the film to a higher level. Tangerine Dream's groundbreaking contributions to electronic music and film scores established a rich tapestry of sound textures and sonic imagery that has influenced numerous electronic musicians and composers. This influence can still be seen over 40 years later in the Netflix series STRANGER THINGS.
